Amber Crable, PhD
Licensed Clinical Psychologist and Supervisor
Amber believes that self-compassion and self-acceptance are essential for promoting growth and healing. Her work with clients is informed by multiple therapeutic approaches grounded in psychodynamic, attachment, somatic, emotion-focused, and mindfulness-based techniques to help clients reconnect with themselves and heal at a core level. She regularly uses AEDP, ISTDP and Internal Family Systems with clients. Amber helps clients heal the source of their distress, build capacity for emotion expression and regulation, and incorporate behaviors that lead to a healthier self and stronger relationships.
Amber has a B.A. in Psychology from Vassar College in New York and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Palo Alto University in Palo Alto, CA. She previously served as a Research Assistant at UCLA in Los Angeles working on stereotypes and perceptions of diversity.
Amber maintains an integrative mindset when conceptualizing mental wellness. She encourages clients to pursue overall wellness, including optimal brain health, to complement their mental health treatment. Amber’s doctoral thesis was on the role of nutrient therapy for major depression and bipolar disorder as she is an advocate for optimizing brain nutrition.
Amber also has a strong interest in Buddhist philosophy and incorporates its teachings into her clinical work as appropriate. She enjoys guiding meditations for clients and draws from the writings of practitioners such as Shinzen Young and Pema Chödrön to enrich her clinical approach. Her clinical work is further inspired by the contributions of psychology pioneers such as Habib Davanloo, Bruce Perry, Diana Fosha, Daniel J. Siegel, and Peter Levine.
Amber enjoys experiencing different cultures through international and domestic travel and speaks some Italian and Spanish. Amber regularly practices yoga and meditation and continues to seek out new ways to increase her and others’ well-being.
