Dr. Bernard Gerber, MD

Bernard M. Gerber, M.D., is not accepting clients. He joined The Hauser Clinic in 2000 after being in private practice in Houston for many years. Dr. Gerber is a graduate of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School at Dallas. He completed an internship in internal medicine at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas in association with the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. He then completed a residency in psychiatry at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, of the Harvard Medical School Department of Psychiatry.

After completing his training, Dr. Gerber joined the faculty of Baylor College of Medicine as Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry. Since 1982, he has been in full-time private practice of psychiatry, currently focusing on outpatient treatment of a variety of psychiatric and mental health problems of adolescents and adults. He is serving as Medical Director of Outpatient Services of Ethos Behavioral Health Group headquartered in Houston, Texas.

Dr. Gerber has held a number of leadership positions in medical organizations. He is a past president of the Houston Psychiatric Society, the Texas Society of Psychiatric Physicians, and the Harris County Medical Society. He continues to serve on boards and committees of these organizations. He has maintained his teaching activities at Baylor College of Medicine and the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston.

Dr. Gerber is board certified in psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association.

Dr. Robin May-Davis, MD

Integrative Psychiatry Consultant and Training Specialist

 

Robin May-Davis, MD is not accepting new clients and is a training consultant for our psychiatry staff. She is a graduate of Harvard Medical School and former chief resident at UCLA’s Neuropsychiatric Institute. She is Board-certified in both psychiatry and Integrative Medicine and studied Psychodynamic Therapy at the New Center for Psychoanalysis in Los Angeles. She is also a diplomate of the American Board of Integrative Holistic Medicine. She formerly served as the Medical Director of Integrative Behavioral Health at Austin Travis County Integral Care, on the Austin Mayor’s Mental health task force, and is a past president of the Austin Psychiatric Society.

Robin is widely regarded as one of Austin’s top private practice psychiatrists. She is beloved for her client-centered approach, the time she takes to truly understand a client’s situation, and her integration of lifestyle recommendations. She is careful with medicine, sometimes working to get her clients off certain medications if she feels they are on too many. Dr. May-Davis’ approach is to help her clients thrive and enjoy life, not just to medicate ailments. Robin has helped set the standard for our approach to medicine and psychiatry, applying leading-edge principles and integrative methods to how we care for our clients.

John Howard, LPC-S, LMFT-S

John Howard is a psychotherapist, educator, entrepreneur and spiritual teacher based in Austin, TX. He is best known for practicing the very leading edge of couples therapy techniques and trains other couples therapists and clinicians internationally. He works with individuals and couples to help them clarify issues, set goals, and move efficiently to improve their lives. He specializes in relationships, anxiety, life purpose and meaning, personal growth and self-exploration, and achieving life goals. His methods are based in the latest neuroscience and psychology and his insight and experience can illuminate new paths forward and novel solutions.

John is a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Supervisor. He has served as a professor of Private Practice in the St. Edward’s University Masters of Arts in Counseling program and as an instructor of Couples & Family Therapy at the Dell/Seton Medical School in Austin, where he designed their couples and family therapy curriculum. John has been a podcaster (Apple Podcasts—Ready Set Love®) and designed the first online neuroscience-informed personal growth course for couples (Ready Set Love®).

John was 1 of 12 couples therapists in the world selected to form the founding core faculty of PACT®, an advanced neuroscience-informed institute that trains couples therapists in the latest methods. He studied closely for six years and later taught with Dr. Stan Tatkin, widely considered one of the best couples therapists in the world, and was Dr. Tatkin’s first teaching assistant for PACT Institute trainings. John has developed and led a relationship wellness program at Google and other companies, and has spoken at numerous psychological conferences. John’s writing is focused on the new science of relationships and he was voted the Top Mental Health Professional in Austin in 2018 and 2019 by the readers of Austin Fit Magazine.

John is the Founder of Presence Therapy®, a novel approach to psychotherapy that integrates mindfulness, interpersonal neuroscience, experiential therapy and psychobiology to offer an inclusive, comprehensive, and integrative approach to therapy and couples therapy based in the latest science. In 2017, he developed CORE Pre-Marital Counseling® in order to update premarital counseling for the 21st century, increasing its basis in neuroscience, attachment theory, and improving inclusivity and multicultural awareness in premarital work. Part of John’s work is to move the field of relationship counseling away from outdated cultural frameworks to science-based definitions of relationship health that do not exclude same-sex and nontraditional couples.

In 2014, John created Ready Set Love®, an online educational platform for couples dedicated to the promotion of healthy relationships worldwide and the first online relationship improvement program based in the neuroscience of connection.

John has authored numerous articles for various media outlets including LifeHack, The Huffington Post, and print magazines, including a regular monthly mental health column for Austin Fit Magazine. In 2016, John presented Bringing Interpersonal Neuroscience into Couples Therapy at the Attachment, Trauma & Intimacy Conference alongside Drs. Dick Schwartz, Amir Levine, Ellyn Bader and Maggie Phillips. In 2013 he presented How to be More Connected as a Couple as part of the Extraordinary Family Life Conference alongside Drs. Dan Siegel and Shefali Tsabary. In 2019 he presented The Spirituality of Relationships at the Contemporary Relationships Conference. He has also taught seminars for the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapists, Attachment Parenting International, Keller Williams Realty International, and more. He has taught with Dr. Diane Poole-Heller as part of her online Mastermind series for therapists and has taught for Dr. Ellyn Bader’s Couples Institute training group for couples therapists. He also runs private training groups for therapists in Austin, TX.

John founded Austin Professional Counseling in 2017, a counseling practice employing the most current treatment protocols for anxiety, depression and more. The practice grew and in 2019 he founded Presence Wellness, a multidisciplinary mental health center integrating mental, physical, and relationship health along with nutrition, yoga, community, meditation and more. At Presence, John is furthering the application of next-level biopsychosocial care and creating a playful community of seekers who want to grow and learn via the latest science-based approaches to health & wellness. John believes in working collaboratively with businesses and organizations to bring awareness to the importance of comprehensive wellness that includes mental, emotional and relational wellbeing.

John helps partners in relationship reconnect and deepen their love. Dr. Cole Weatherby, DO

Cole Weatherby, DO is not accepting clients and is a graduate of University of North Texas Health Science Center and the UT Southwestern at Seton Family of Hospitals general psychiatry residency. He is board-certified in psychiatry and addiction medicine and has a special interest in aviation psychiatry and aviation medicine. He has long been a student of integrative approaches and utilizes an array of non-pharmaceutical approaches to assist people in optimizing brain and whole-person health.

He has been practicing psychiatry since 2008 and was the medical director for Sage Recovery and Wellness for 9 years. He is designated by the Federal Aviation Administration as a senior HIMS aviation medical examiner and HIMS psychiatrist, working particularly with pilots with a history of addiction and mental health struggles.

Dr. Weatherby holds himself to a high standard of ethical behavior and is particularly skeptical of the pharmaceutical industry and its potentially problematic impact on medical decision making and common practices. His practice style focuses on meeting patients where they are and providing them with the best support and knowledge possible to aid them in making solid decisions about their healthcare. He is also a strong believer in the benefits of psychotherapy as a tool for creating lasting changes in the brain and improving our ability to alter unhelpful patterns of thinking and behavior.

Lauren McGee, LMSW

Clinical Social Work and Administrative Support

 

Lauren is passionate about partnering with clients to work toward client goals, facilitate personal reflection, enhance overall well-being, and increase the ability to manage and cope with challenging circumstances, life transitions, relationship difficulties, self-esteem issues, and a range of mental health conditions. She hopes to assist clients in cultivating a deeper understanding of themselves, their emotions, and their thinking patterns. As a clinician, Lauren aspires to create a therapeutic relationship and environment in which clients of all backgrounds and lived experiences consistently feel safe, supported, and heard.

When working with Lauren, clients can expect to be met with compassion, warmth, curiosity, and an open mind. Her practice draws from her training thus far in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Psychodynamic theories. Her areas of special interest include anxiety and mood disorders, self-esteem and identity issues, and spiritual/religious trauma.

As a clinician who highly values the therapeutic relationship, Lauren is happy to offer free intro calls to clients in order to ensure that she is the right fit and looks forward to connecting! She even helps our administrative staff and would be happy to help schedule, coordinate other therapists on our staff and get you started with paperwork.
