Emily Tran, PsyD, LMFT (she/her/hers), takes a solution-oriented, strengths-based approach and integrates mindfulness and meditation practices to help clients become more present and let go of troubling experiences. Emily identifies as a feminist woman of color. She believes you are the expert in your life and understands that not everyone experiences life the same way. Emily is transparent and authentic with the clients in the hopes of having meaningful conversations. She strives to create a warm, friendly, nonjudgmental space and is passionate about working with individuals and couples.
Emily received her master’s in Psychology with a concentration in Marriage and Family Therapy and her doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio. She spent most of her time at the local mental health authority working with individuals diagnosed with severe mental illness.
She has worked on integrated teams consisting of nurses, primary care providers, psychiatrists, psychologists, and peer support specialists to best help individuals with severe mental illness and their families. Conversations with clients frequently included health behavior changes and next steps regarding substance use and mental health concerns. During her training, she became increasingly passionate about providing integrated care to those experiencing mental and physical health concerns. Emily gained an appreciation for working with people from diverse populations and witnessed how culture, systems, and barriers can impact a person’s ability to obtain care.
Emily has experience working with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorders, schizophrenia spectrum disorders, relational concerns, difficult life changes, and health behavior changes. She is devoted to approaching client concerns in a way that best suits them. Emily also maintains an integrated mindset to prioritize the client’s overall health.
In her downtime, Emily enjoys spending time with her family and friends, gardening, reading, and painting. As an advocate for whole health care, Emily tries to maintain a regular exercise routine and mindfulness practices.
