Laura Blakley, PMHNP
No longer accepting new patients
Laura is no longer accepting new patients. She is an Advance Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) and a Board-Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) in the State of Texas. She is licensed to provide psychiatric assessment and diagnosis, medication management and psychotherapy. She works closely with supervising physician Dr. Robin May-Davis. Laura focuses on in-depth mental health evaluations, integrative psychiatric consults and treatment, medication management, and prescribing medicine as needed.
Laura is a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin School of Nursing where she graduated with a Masters of Science in Nursing in 2018, obtaining her licensure as an Advance Practice Registered Nurse. She completed her Bachelors at Texas A&M University in English and History. Laura is a member of the International Nursing Honors Society and has completed continuing education programs in Master Psychopharmacology and Neuropsychiatry through Harvard Medical School.
Laura is a native Austinite who grew up enjoying the “weird” and open atmosphere of the city, along with its diverse music scene. This inclusive and eclectic culture fostered a deep appreciation of the unique parts that inspire and shape the lives of those around her. She is an avid traveler who has visited more than a dozen countries, and has many trips in mind. Her love of travel and exploring new cultures is complimented by her love of languages, and she is functionally fluent in Spanish, and can speak conversationally in French.
Laura has worked at every level of healthcare, with the purpose of better understanding healthcare structures and patient needs. At Seton Shoal Creek Hospital, she served as a Behavioral Health Technician, where she spent significant one-on-one time with acute patients, and worked in a medical-surgical and telemetry unit at St. David’s South Austin. Before joining PRESENCE, Laura spent 3.5 years on the core psychiatric staff at Seton Shoal Creek Hospital, working extensively with patients experiencing psychiatric episodes of all kinds.
In particular, Laura has expertise identifying and managing mood and anxiety disorders, including trauma-based reactions, as well as personality disorders. She helped implement a Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) model to the inpatient setting, as well as develop and manage a DBT-based Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP).
In addition to the programs she helped develop at Seton Shoal Creek, Laura continues to remain active in the academic community by serving as a lecturer at the University of Texas at Austin School of Nursing and as a clinical preceptor and educator for Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner students throughout central Texas. To date, she has trained more than a dozen Nurse Practitioner students, many of whom have remained in the Austin area.
In her time off, Laura spends her time relaxing with friends and family over a good meal, or outdoors enjoying the many natural activities Texas has to offer; and on rainy days she enjoys reading and learning. She shares her home with her cat Bug, and her dog Matilda (Tilly), who are learning to appreciate one another.
Laura is available to see clients ages 18 and up for initial psychiatric consults and medication management. To book an appointment with Laura, simply call our main office at 512-469-0535 or email our office at admin@presencewellness.co.
