Our Addiction Healing program is supervised by Dr. Daniel Hochman, a leading national expert in recovery from addictions, and led by Julie Falchuk, LCSW, who has many years of experience in substance abuse treatment and leading groups for people struggling with substance use. Both bring a holistic and comprehensive approach to the treatment of addictions, incorporating self-exploration, self-awareness, therapy, mindfulness, and more.
Many addiction experts believe that addictions are a way to escape emotional pain that is intolerable and may sometimes originate in childhood. It is important, therefore, that addiction recovery programs help you become more resilient to life’s challenges and able to navigate emotional ups and downs with strength and compassion. Our program helps you to develop healthier outlets for emotional and psychological pain, such as self-awareness, resourcing & emotional regulation tools, bonding and sharing with others, exploring yourself and struggles in therapy, and more.
Our program also considers the physical, biological and medical aspects of treating addictions, such as whether an addiction or substance may be an attempt to correct a physiological imbalance or a frustrating aspect of mind. Substance abuse and other addictions sometimes coincide with mental health stressors such as anxiety, depression, ADD, sleeplessness and bipolar disorders.
We work with any type of addiction, depending on the severity. These are examples of the types of addictions we work with:
- Alcohol Overuse & Abuse
- Substance Abuse (Cannabis, Xanax, Oxy, Adderall, etc)
- Screen/internet addiction
- Video Games
- Smoking (cigarettes)
- Out of control sexual behavior
Any type of addiction is welcome in our program. We work on the mental and emotional causes of addiction as well as consider biological or physiological components of the issue. We help you understand your underlying issues/reasons for addiction in order to gain control. Our program is a non-judgmental place to focus on behavior, not rigid rules. We take a harm reduction approach–no commitment to abstinence is needed. As an alternative to 12-step programs, there is no requirement to believe in a higher power. Our approach includes mindfulness, sometimes yoga, and other integrative approaches based in science.
The format of our program is a weekly 1 hr 15 min group that meets via Zoom and is led by Julie Falchuk, LCSW. You can choose to pair the group with online enrollment at a discount in Dr. Hochman’s Self Recovery online program, a private and effective addiction recovery program you complete from home. The group can hold you accountable to the principles in the program, offers additional and personalized exploration of yourself, and gives you the opportunity to connect with others to bond and support one another in the journey. Or you can choose to just be in the group as long as you want to focus on healing your addiction.
The group meets every Tuesday from 1-2:15pm via our secure and private Healthcare Zoom platform. If you choose to combine the group with enrollment in the Self Recovery online program, you will receive a discount on the online program component. Self Recovery is a comprehensive and full curriculum and offers a safe way during the coronavirus pandemic to work on your addiction issues from home and with the support of the group.
